Six bodies discovered after freak storm

Six people including two sisters were found dead after they were swept away by a flash flood during the freak storm in Isipingo on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the victims were discovered in different areas of Isipingo. One of the deceased was found in a vehicle that was under water in the CBD.

Meanwhile, a toddler believed to be 18-months-old and a three-year-old were also discovered near the Isipingo canal in Prospecton on Thursday.  The bodies were found 150 metres away from each other and were identified to be sisters. Police are still searching for their mother who is missing. The deceased had drowned due to the flash floods

Communications officer of the Isipingo SAPS, Cpt David Ragavan, said that the police are still searching to find the mother.

“SAPS Search and Rescue Team members and other emergency response departments have been working from the morning of October 10 to date to find residents who have gone missing due to the heavy rains. People are still being sought following reports of missing persons. We have received many calls related to the storm and are working tirelessly with other disaster management services to assist the victims. People died as a result of drowning, being struck by falling objects and trapped in vehicles. Police are still working. It is confirmed that six inquest dockets were opened at Isipingo SAPS and are being investigated,” Cpt Ragavan.
