16 arrested for drunk driving during roadblock

Police officers were out in full force during the roadblock operation.


A roadblock operation yielded positive results for Malvern SAPS after police officers managed to arrest 16 people for drunk driving.

The unit moved the operation to different spots in Malvern, saturating all the focal points and ensuring that all areas of the Malvern patrolling vicinity were covered.

Communications officer of Malvern SAPS, W/O Radhika Marimuthu said, “The operation consisted of members from Metro Police and Malvern SAPS who performed duty under the command and control of station commander of Malvern SAPS, Lt Col Valarine Reddy.”

Lt Col Reddy attributed the success of the operation to the excellent teamwork of the different units. She also stated that it was disconcerting to note that drivers had their families in the vehicle while driving under the influence.

“This showed not only a blatant disregard for the safety of their families but also for other road users,” she concluded.
