Women in blue help net 765 offenders

The eThekwini Inner South Cluster successfully made over 700 arrests during the month of August following a month long operation.

The ‘women in blue’ of the eThekwini Inner South Cluster were part of the successful operation which was one of the many events launched by the cluster to honour the women of the South African Police Services.

The multi-disciplinary operation brought in female officers from within the cluster and Crime Intelligence officers together with Metro officers and the South African Defence Force.

The month long operation swept in 555 drug arrests, 153 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, 11 arrests for prostitution and four arrests for possession of stolen goods.

Over 50 members joined forces to combat crime in the area by conducting regular vehicle stop and searches and visible policing at regular hot-spots.

The cluster also handed out over 400 pamphlets during the month to promote vehicle safety, neighbourhood safety and reduce the amount of domestic violence in the area.

eThekwini Inner South Cluster’s commander, Maj Gen Keerath Nunkumar commended all members who worked against time during the month of August to keep the crime under control by conducting regular stop and searches and conducting visible policing throughout the area.

“As the cluster commander, I encourage operations which promote the women of the force who make a difference,” he said.
