The Tyrants Band celebrated their 50 year anniversary in grand style at the Hotel Savera in Kharwastan, recently.

Leslie Seekola (15) on the lead guitar, Victor Benjamin (17) on the bass guitar, Silas Francis (16) on the rhythm guitar and the late Steven Henry on the drums were the perfect combo to form the legendary boy band.

The band kicked off in the early 1960’s with four boys who served an honourable and dedicated journey of rhythm and beat.

The band strongly believes that it is their discipline and reputation which held the band in good stead after 50 golden years of making music.

The proud band won many competitions that were common in the 1970’s and 1980’s and had fans who flocked to the venues for a night of fun and music. The recent event was a tremendous success as fans were mesmerised by a sterling performance the band gave off.

Bass guitarist, Victor Benjamin said, “The success of the band was worked on with our managers, the late Jeddy Naidoo and John James, who did an outstanding piece of work to bring the band into excellence and our supporters.”

The group has proven their community dedication with their outstanding performances at non-profitable events with organisations such as the ABH and Child Welfare Durban and District.

The band of Tyrants which stands today include Herbert David, Steven Pillay, Allan Chetty and long standing Victor Benjamin who plan to continue the proud legacy.
