New city manager ready to serve people of eThekwini

The newly appointed city manager of eThekwini, Sipho Cyril Nzuza received a warm Durban welcome from officials and dignitaries at a mayoral breakfast, which was held at the presidential suite at the picturesque Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Apart from officials and dignitaries, media representatives were also invited to the function, which was entitled ‘Meet the New City Manager’ and had the opportunity engage with Nzuza, who officially began his term on May 1, 2017.

Some of the highlights of the insightful programme included an address and introduction of the new CM by mayor of Durban, Cllr Zandile Gumede, who wished him very well during his term. In addition to this, DCM Governance and HR’s Mr Sipho Cele delivered remarks on behalf of the deputy city managers. He was then followed by president of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Zeph Ndlovu, who also addressed those in attendance.

At a previous function which was held, Mr Nzuza said that he is looking forward to serving the people of eThekwini and that key priorities include implementing catalytic projects which will address unemployment and other social ills.

He will also be working towards ensuring that the city of Durban is rated as one of the top five liveable and attractive modern cities in the world. Nzuza is no stranger to the sunny province as he previously served as the chairman of the eThekwini Municipality’s audit committee for six years.

During the mayoral breakfast, he pointed out that he wants to accelerate the rate of growth and development to make certain that radical economic transformation is implemented, especially in rural areas. Maintaining current services such as repairing damaged roads and also traffic light maintenance is also very vital to him.

After formalities and photo opportunities for the function concluded, all attendees were treated to a buffet breakfast and were given the opportunity to network with each other.
