Following an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Montclair SAPS Trio Task Team, Brighton Beach Crime intelligence, Durban and Metro K9 units, five suspects were arrested for house break-ins committed in the Montclair, Greenwood Park, Reservoir Hills, Umkomaas and Amanzimtoti areas, recently.

The suspects were tracked using a hired vehicle and were followed towards Malendela Road, where they were stopped and searched. Upon searching the vehicle, a shotgun, a revolver and a flat screen television set were recovered.

The firearms were positively linked to a house break-in in Jardine Road in Montclair. A television was also just stolen from a house in Reservoir Hills. Further investigations led to another arrest and eight flat screen television sets and several home theatre systems were recovered in Lamontville and Umlazi.

Three of the five suspects were positively linked to a Montclair house robbery case where a 27-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic test to establish if they were used in any other crime in the province.

“We will ensure that these criminals are taken to court so that they can be prosecuted. We hope that they receive a very harsh sentence for such acts. This is a reminder to the criminals that the long arm of the law covers the entire country and there is nowhere you can hide,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa. The suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court for house robbery on April 24.
