Business owner irate over refuse along Commerce Street

The strewn garbage.

Rodents, flies, sink holes and heaps of refuse has become a common sight along Commerce Street in recent weeks, according to an irate tenant of Business Partners Industrial Hive who is deeply concerned for his health and that of others as well.

Business man who wishes to remain anonymous said that the smell of the garbage is unbearable and that during this time, it was difficult for employees to carry out their daily duties.

“I lodged a complaint with the relevant department as this is not the first time such an incident of this nature occurred. My business premises is situated next to the area of concern. Due to this, the flies and rodents enter my office. The property manager does not do anything to follow up on these issues, which I feel should be of high priority. Several manhole covers are also missing and I am worried that my staff and community members will be injured because of this.  While the area was cleaned up this time, there were multiple occasions whereby the area was just left unattended,” he said.

When journalists contacted the property manager, Anand Jhearnathan, he said that all of the refuse has been cleaned up already.   “One packet of dirt was left behind by the dirt truck the other day and the packet was then torn apart by an animal. This is what caused the commotion.  Only one tenant complained about the trash and it was cleaned up efficiently.  The issue of the pothole is currently being looked into,” added the property manager.
