Four Montford families had their lives disrupted after a burst water pipe caused water damage to their properties, last Friday.

The drama unfolded after the burst eThekwini Municipality pipe caused water, sand and rubble to gush into these homes.   Businessman and owner of one of the affected homes, Devan Naidoo expressed his concerns regarding the damaged caused by the flood.

“It is evident that the municipality did not do a proper job when they initially installed these pipes.  We understand and accept that contractors need to earn a living but at the same time they cannot put our lives and homes at risk. Most of our property has been damaged and we need to find accommodation until our homes are cleaned up,” he said.

According to the disgruntled home owner, the lives of his family have been totally disrupted.  “My niece was going to get married last weekend and we were going to be hosting wedding ceremonies at my home. Unfortunately, the wedding had to be cancelled because of the severity of the damage. My daughter had to miss school, my business has been put on hold and my disabled sister cannot live in an environment of this nature,” he added.  The eThekwini Municipality is currently working to resolve the issue.
