Prestigious award for local musician

The award was presented to Earnest Earl by two other musical stalwarts who have stood the test of time, Pastor Cyril and Jason Naidoo.

Local musician, Ernest Earl, received the prestigious SA-ME Award (South African Musical Excellence Award) at a function held at the Savera Hotel, recently.

The prestigious award is reserved for non-academics who excelled musically, especially during the South African struggle, and is issued without prejudice. It was endorsed by Prof Mageshen Naidoo from the University of Pretoria, Melvin Peters (UKZN- Masters in Music) and Liam Paul (UDW- Honours in Music).

The award was presented by two other musical stalwarts who have stood the test of time, Pastor Cyril and Jason Naidoo.

Earl is well-known for keeping the local musical flame alight through the dark ages of apartheid. The colour barriers never deterred him from reaching international standards in the local musical arena.
