Meet Merebank’s aspiring radio presenter

Nikita Davies is a radio presenter at Megazone.

“Don’t worry about being successful, but work towards being significant and success will naturally follow” – Oprah Winfrey. These profound words inspired and encouraged 22-year-old Nikita Davies to empower young women to never give up on life.

The former Merebank resident and radio presenter at Megazone lost both her parents at an early age and was forced to become a strong and independent woman at the tender age of seven.

Speaking to the Rising Sun, the enthusiastic presenter shared her amazing journey and hopes that this opportunity will allow her a chance to make a difference in the lives of youngsters who have suffered the loss of their loved ones.

Sharing her story, the excited lass spoke openly about the challenges and hardships which motivated her to stay focused. “I faced many obstacles in my life with a smile and never gave up on my goals and dreams. I lost both parents when I was seven-years-old and was left heartbroken. Even though I wish I had more time to spend with them, the amount of support I received from friends and family played a tremendous role in ensuring that I stayed focused on pursing my dream job and career. After completing matric, I wanted to become a model but instead pursued a career in media. At the time being a model was the big thing. The extent of my dream was to sing on radio stations. I finally gathered up the courage to start knocking on doors of various radio stations, hoping to get a break in the field.  I soon stumbled across a radio presenter who decided that my voice was just what that station was looking for. I was asked to come through for a voice test and the rest was history,” she said.

Davies explained she wants to use her job to inspire young women to always think about their future. “I have always been surrounded by inspirational and amazing women in my life. I hope to show and set an example to other young women.  I am also passionate about music and envision being a prominent figure in entertainment.  Being behind the microphone is a very powerful thing for me because I am allowed to be unrestricted and uncensored. It’s a fun and liberating experience for me. I have a very outspoken personality and like to share my views on issues with large audiences. Radio allows me to do this,” she said.

When the talented radio presenter is not entertaining the community, she enjoys getting actively involved in various church projects and loves singing.

“I am a member of the church choir and believe that singing evokes the soul. I know that my calling is to inspire and motivate everyone that I come in contact with and would like to be someone that people can look up. My message to youngsters who want to pursue a career in media is always believe in yourself and confidence is the key. Relate and communicate with your listeners and be enthusiastic about your job. My future goals and aspirations are to also pursue career in music while I work at Megazone,” she said.
