The Moorton Community Development Forum leader, Cyril Naidu together with the Moorton Community Police Forum (MCPF) invited the deputy mayor, Cllr Fawzia Peer, to address and assist several civic matters.

These issues included, land invasion, property value, crime, sanitation, electricity theft, parks department, water restrictions, the shifts of the Metro Police and the SAPS.

The relevant authorities and officials were present at the meeting.  Deputy mayor, Cllr Fawzia Peer said, “We can take back our streets from these brazen criminals.  By standing together we will nail and jail criminals.”  Community members had the opportunity to voice their concerns through a question and answer session.

Residents were urged to become more proactive and start neighborhood watch programmes and start using platforms such as WhatsApp to alert other community members of any unusual activity in the area.

The MCDF also appeals to residents to attend the sub-forum meetings in their respective areas. These meetings are vital as residents learn about crime in their area, they can raise any concerns about crime and they become empowered to prevent crime before it happens.

Meanwhile, the Moorton residents held a motor rally to address the many civic issues in the community, last week.  According to a concerned resident, Billy Chengalroyan, the rally was to create awareness about civic issues, including land invasion.  “We, as the community, have gathered together to peacefully address of the issues we have as a community.  We also have backing from all of the relevant authorities, we will continue to have ongoing meetings,” said Chengalroyan.
