Rapist sentenced to 238 years imprisonment

LIMPOPO: A 30-year-old serial rapist faced the full wrath of the law after he was sentenced to 238 years imprisonment for 36 counts of violent crimes which include rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances and sexual assault. The SAPS provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Jim Ledwaba welcomed the lengthy jail term and in addition to this commended the investigating officer, Det Sgt Kwena Shilajwe.

Frank Makgoka Thoka committed the heinous crimes between 2008 and 2014 until he was arrested earlier this year. He remained in custody without bail. He was terrorising community members especially young girls and women aged between 14 and 48. The rapes were committed between 8am and 11pm. He targeted school girls, threatened them with a firearm or a knife, dragged them to nearby bushes where he robbed and raped them. He also entered houses pretending to be a job seeker. He would then attack and rape the domestic workers.

Six bodies found in open veld

GAUTENG: Police are investigating cases of murder after six bodies were found in an open veld next to a railway line in Benoni, over the weekend. According to reports, a passer-by contacted the police after he came across the bodies at about 9am on Sunday, March 5. When they arrived at the crime scene, police found that all the victims sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. It is suspected that the victims were killed elsewhere and then taken to the veld. Police reports further indicated that the victims were illegal miners. The motive for the murders is still unknown and the bodies have not yet been identified. Investigations are continuing.

Man arrested for firearm and drug possession

WESTERN CAPE: A 42-year-old suspect was arrested in Compassberg Street in Tafelsig after he was found in possession of firearm and drugs, recently. It is believed that police officers were conducting crime prevention patrols in the area when they stopped and requested to search the man. He was found in possession of a stolen firearm and drugs. The firearm was reported stolen in Parow, according to police reports. It is believed that the suspect is an alleged gang member. He has appeared in court.
