According to police reports, the men alleged that the teenagers had stolen a cellphone from the parlour. They allegedly gave the youngsters a poisonous substance to drink and then tied one of the victims by his feet and punched and kicked him several times.

The boys were released, however, one of the boys died soon after the incident. Provincial spokesman of KZN, Cpt Nqobile Gwala said that a case of attempted murder was opened at Brighton Beach SAPS and four suspects, aged between 20 and 35, were arrested.

“They appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court and the case was postponed to March 15, for further investigation,” said Cpt Gwala.
