Defining SA’s key priorities and commitments for 2017

The third edition of the UCLG Campus and Strategic Planning Session took place in Barcelona, recently, which is home to the organisation’s World Secretariat.

Senior manager for policy,  Puvendra Akkiah and chief strategy officer at the eThekwini Municipality, Adrian Peters had the privilege of representing the city of Durban at the innovative programme. Under the theme, ‘From Policy Development to Implementation’, this year’s programme included a meeting to define the key priorities and commitments for 2017.

In addition to this, it also placed great emphasis on localising the sustainable development goals, building networks, promoting the learning agenda, global reporting on democracy, monitoring of progress on the SDG’s as well as improving communication.

According to the municipality, SA has a very strong connection with the UCLG as the mayor of Durban, Cllr Zandile chairs the Urban Strategic Planning Committee. There were positive insights at the programme which was a resounding success once again.

SA also a strong link to UCLG because the former Mayor of Johannesburg and the Current Chair of SALGA, Parks Tau, is the President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
