Two men accused of rape were each sentenced to life imprisonment for rape as well as an additional five years for kidnapping in the Umlazi Regional Court, recently.

Lunga Terrence Mthembu (27) and Sandile Wesley Shadu (31) were convicted by the court after the magistrate heard how they raped the victim. The incident occurred on November 15, 2008 at the Umlazi J section when the 14-year-old victim was approached by the accused while she was on her way to attend a stokvel meeting in the area.

Both men threatened her with a firearm. The victim was forced to go with the men to the nearest school premises where she was repeatedly raped.
