Mystery surrounds Welbedacht resident’s murder

Investigations are continuing at the Chatsworth SAPS after a 23-year-old Welbedacht resident was shot on the back of his head along Violet Lane, Crossmoor, recently.

The young victim, Jereian ‘Boya’ Perumal later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. According to police reports, Perumal had left home on the fateful morning and did not return. The Chatsworth SAPS team responded to the scene of the shooting. Perumal was transported by paramedics to a local hospital.

In an interview with the victim’s distraught mother, Julie, she explained that a resident informed her that her son reportedly fell from a tree while picking pears.

“I thought that my son was with a friend, until my family and I received a phone call stating that my son was shot and was being taken to hospital.  We later found out that my son was murdered and that the resident lied about him falling from the tree,” said Perumal.  The devastated mother stated that her son’s body was only released by the Pinetown Mortuary on Monday, March 6.

According to communications officer at Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay,  no arrests have been made at this stage. “Anyone who can assist police is urged to contact Det Cnst Mjwara on 078-671-8046 or 031 451-4223. Alternatively they can call at Room DLG 7 at 1 Justice Street, Croftdene,” she added.
