Star principal’s illustrious career comes to an end

The dedicated principal will certainly be missed by the staff members and pupils.

After serving four decades as a dedicated teacher and principal, the illustrious career of Witteklip Secondary School principal, Gopi Ramsami Naidu, came to an end, last month.

Naidu strongly believes that ‘what you put in is what you will get out’ which is how he attained success throughout his career.

Although he specialised in Mathematics and Physical education, 63-year-old Naidu taught all subjects at school, and filled in whenever there was a need to.

The devoted teacher schooled at Isipingo State Aided Primary and later at Isipingo High, where his teachers made his school life pleasant and enjoyable.

He therefore vowed to make his pupils’ lives just as pleasurable as his was.  Later, he completed his tertiary studies at Springfield College of Education and at the University of Durban-Westville.

The retiree fondly remembers his formative years at school as a pupil.  “Growing up in a very humble and closely bonded family, I always wanted to become a teacher or a policeman.  My parents, James and Radha, always made the education of their children a priority which I am very grateful for as they contributed to making me successful in life,” fondly recalled Naidu.

The principal was passionate about serving Witteklip Secondary and the Croftdene community and is well-known for his humanitarian qualities and charity work, which led to him to founding Welfare of Witteklip (WOW).

This organisation ensured that many indigent families of Croftdene received food hampers, clothing and other basic necessities on a regular basis.  The PE teacher also received numerous sporting accolades over the years including being selected to represent the Natal High Schools and SA schools for soccer, cricket and athletics on many occasions.

The sports fanatic also played professional soccer with Manning Rangers, for 13 years.  He also coached Manning Rangers and is presently is one of the chairmen on the SA Federation of Soccer Legends of which he is highly respected.

After his long career, the family-orientated gentleman wishes to spend quality time with his lovely wife, Shilo, who is his strength and support, his two children and two grandchildren are dear to him.

The motivational man encourages the pupils of Witteklip Secondary to study hard and to attain qualifications and skills in order to become successful people.

The pupils, staff and parents of Witteklip Secondary, past and present, wish Naidu a well-earned and rewarding retirement.  He definitely leaves a void at school and will be dearly missed by all.
