Murder suspect sentenced to 12 years behind bars

A 48-year-old man was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, of which five is wholly suspended, at the Durban Regional Court, recently.

According to communications officer at the Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, members of the Chatsworth SAPS responded to a scene at hre RK Khan Circle, where they found the victim slumped in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, on October 2, 2014.

“The victim’s girlfriend assisted police with identification. The investigating officer, Det Cpt Nguni, acted swiftly on information which led to the arrest of the suspect, Irvin Fanie Mackin Shange, and placed the matter before the justice system,” she said.

The acting station commander of the Chatsworth SAPS, Col Trevor Small, applauded Det Cpt Nguni on the sterling investigation conducted and the successful conviction of this perpetrator of crime.
