A ‘home’ for all Liverpool fans

Ambassador of the LFC Supporters Club, Dashnie Govender.

The official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in KZN was founded in 2013 by two friends. Linus Naik had been a member of the Cape Town and the Johannesburg Supporters Club previously, and after moving to Durban in 2012, he realised that there wasn’t an official club on the East Coast.

Together with Shahil Lachman, they then put in the groundwork to set up a supporters club in Durban. After searching for many venues, they finally settled at Britannia Hotel.

The vision was to have a ‘home’ for all Liverpool fans to watch games together and sing along with the Kop. In addition, the Durban club does whatever it can to support its local community, under a Liverpool banner.

In 2014, a formal steering committee was voted in, and Linus served as the first elected chairman. The club had also put in an application for official registration with Anfield. The official title was awarded for the 2014 and 15 seasons and has been carried on through to present day. This means that the club can get access to home seating for games at Anfield.

A further addition to the Liverpool Supporters committee is Dashnie Govender, who has been appointed as the ambassador of the club. She is looking forward to creating a larger fan base as well as encouraging the love for football and Liverpool among females.

There are many other benefits when you register as a member of the supporters club. For further enquiries on becoming a member, email Dashnie on [email protected]
