Police operation nets 157 suspects

As part of a province wide clampdown, KZN police conducted an operation, under the umbrella of ‘Operation Fiela’ to combat crime in the various areas.

A total of 157 suspects were apprehended for various crimes ranging from murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of drugs, dealing in liquor and drugs, contravention of the Road Traffic Act, contravention of the Second Hand Goods Act and contravention of Protection Orders.

Police reports stated that a large quantity of drugs and liquor were seized by police while illegal firearms and dangerous weapons were also recovered in different parts of the province.

Operations such as these will continue. KZN’s police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni said, “We once again appeal to our communities to be on their best behaviour and report criminal activity to the police.”
