A 37-year-old man, who claimed to be a traditional healer, will spend life behind bars after he was found guilty of murder in the Durban High Court, recently.
Police reports indicated that on April 5, 2015, the accused, Mzwakhe Muzi Ncube approached 29-year-old Ntombizethu Cele, who was at the Ngonyameni area.
He introduced himself as a traditional healer.
Provincial police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane said, “He told her that she needed cleansing as there were people, who were planning to attack her. She believed him and they decided to meet at the Engonyameni area on April 8, 2015.”
On the said date, the two proceeded to a bush where the accused was going to ‘perform the cleansing’. Upon arrival, the accused turned against the victim.
He grabbed her and slit her throat before fleeing the scene on foot.
A case of murder was reported at Bhekithemba police station for investigation.
Following a rigorous police investigation, the accused was traced to the Esidwebi area where he was hiding.
“He was arrested, charged and remained in custody until he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder,” added Lt Col Zwane.
