Two accused, who were arrested for accosting and robbing a man at knifepoint in the Isipingo CBD, were found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment each, recently. Dlamini Khumbulu Sakhile (24) and Maphumulo Fani Godrey (27) were sentenced in the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court.
On the day of the crime, the man was accosted at knifepoint by the accused while walking along Kajee Street in the Isipingo CBD.
They assaulted the victim and held him at knifepoint.
One suspect removed the complainant’s cellphones and wallet containing cash and bank cards.
Communications officer of Isipingo SAPS, Cpt David Ragavan said, “Officers were patrolling the CBD and witnessed the robbery taking place and responded by surprise. The suspects tried to resist and flee but W/O Makhatini and Cnst Nywose of the Isipingo Crime Prevention Unit held on to the suspects and eventually arrested them.”
The valuables were also seized. A case of robbery with a knife and resisting arrest were opened and the docket was investigated by Det W/O PM Govender of Isipingo Detective Branch.
“Management of Isipingo SAPS would like to commend W/O Makhatini and Cnst Nywose for their quick response and Det W/O PM Govender for his excellent detective work,” Cpt Ragavan said.
