An armed response officer was injured in a point-blank shooting incident in the Isipingo vicinity, earlier this week.
Isipingo SAPS, the Umlazi K9 Unit and Metro Police K9 Unit responded to the scene of the crime.
Community and media liaison officer of Blue Security, Andreas Mathios said the armed response officer had parked his vehicle at the corner of Baracuda Drive and Avenue East when a suspect approached him at about 9: 55pm.
“The suspect struck up a conversation with the officer and asked him for a lift but the officer refused, saying he was working. The suspect then pullout out a firearm and demanded that the officer hand over his firearm,” Mathios said.
The officer grabbed hold of the suspect’s firearm and a shot went off that grazed the officer’s forehead as it ricocheted off the roof of the vehicle.
