A 24-year-old house robbery and assault GBH suspect was sentenced to seven years imprisonment after accosting a Malukazi family.
Communications officer of Isipingo SAPS, Cpt David Ragavan said the complainant awoke in her Malukazi home when she heard a noise.
She saw a man standing beside her. Then, he grabbed three cellphones that were charging and cash and tried to flee. The complainant screamed and grabbed the suspect.
He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the complainant in the left hand. While fleeing the suspect left behind one of his shoes.
The complainant was transported to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital and received 20 stitches on her hand.
On Thursday, September 21, 2017 at about 10pm, Det Cnst Teenage Cikwayo was working on a suspect raid and during the tour of his duties, he arrested the suspect in Malukazi and he was charged accordingly.
The suspect, Philani Vuyisile Mnyandu, of Malukazi, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court and was found guilty of house robbery and assault GBH and was sentence to seven years imprisonment, recently.
Station management commends Det Cnst Teenage Cikwayo for his dedication and investigative skills in arresting and bringing the suspects before court and ensuring that they remain behind bars keeping the community safe.
PRO of the Isipingo CPF, Junaid Iqbal, commended the detective on his good work. It goes to show that they have very dedicated members in the police service who are willing to go the extra mile to keep the community safe.
