Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units throughout the province ended Women’s Month on a high note indeed after securing 44 convictions for crimes against women and children.
In addition, a total of 402 suspects were also arrested during the same month for various crimes such as rape, sexual assault, assault GBH, attempted murder, common assault, concealment of birth, kidnapping as well as other sexual offences.
Teams of dedicated investigators from the FCS units around KZN were in a position to secure 44 convictions while other cases remain under investigation or are still at court.
Among those convicted, 12 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for rape cases while others were sentenced to a total of 394 years in prison.
These seasoned investigators will continue to persevere in bringing those, who abuse women and children, to book.
“Citizens can be assured that all cases in their hands will be thoroughly investigated to ensure that those implicated end up in prison,” said provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala.
