Two suspects, who were allegedly planning to commit a crime, were swiftly apprehended by KwaMakhutha police officers, on Tuesday.
In addition to this, three unlicensed firearms and ammunition were also seized. Police reports indicated that on July 10 at about 5:05pm, police officers received intelligence-driven information regarding the suspects.
Police officers proceeded to a taxi rank in KwaMakhutha, searching for the suspects. Two suspects were approached while in a vehicle.
A search was conducted and the suspects were found in possession of an R5 rifle, two pistols, grinder, electric extension cords and gloves.
They were also found in possession of 60 assortment rounds of ammunition. As required, the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to confirm if they were used in any other crimes in the province or country.
The suspects, aged 19 and 46, appeared in court and were remanded in custody until July 16 for a formal bail application.
