A 38-year-old man was sentenced to two years imprisonment or a R50, 000 fine for being in possession of drugs to the value of R300, 000 at the Durban Regional Court, recently.
Communications officer of the Bayview SAPS, W/O Collin Chetty, said the accused, Sugan Govender, was arrested in May 2016.
“The hard work by the state prosecutor, Charlene Govender, paid dividends. The management of the Bayview SAPS is happy with the sentence handed down by the magistrate, Anand Maharaj,” he said.
The Bayview SAPS is appealing to the community to work with police to address the issue of drugs in the Bayview policing area.
The Bayview SAPS also works with Metro Police to combat crime and drug dealing in the area.
