‘Don’t just reach for the stars, be a star’- former Chats woman

Success and nothing less for Shernel Lee Krupanandham.

A former Chatsworth woman hopes to inspire others to follow the path less traveled after moving to Dubai to pursue a career as a crew member of Emirates Airline, recently.

Twenty-five-year-old Shernel Lee Krupanandham was inspired by the lifestyle of flight attendants.

In an interview with the bubbly resident, she said, “I didn’t wish to have a mediocre life. I prefer a life that is spontaneous and full of adventure, travels and growth. My favourite part of my job is creating memories people dream about and making friends throughout the world.”

Krupanandham said she is abundantly blessed and is grateful to God for placing her in situations that she did not even apply for. “Words cannot do justice to the amount of gratitude I have,” she humbly said.

Krupanandham, who also dabbles in modelling, resided in Chatsworth for nine years before relocating to Dubai.

“In an average day, I would wake up in Dubai and go to sleep in New York. It was challenging to adjust to different sleep patterns and trying not to fight the ‘body clock’. My message for aspiring flight attendants is to not just reach for the stars, but rather be a star,” added Krupanandham.

She added that everyone has the capability to excel and over time, she has learned that nothing comes easy in life.

“One needs to have persistence, determination, faith and will-power to achieve anything they want in life. Don’t listen to those clichés such as ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’. Listen to your heart always,” she added.

According to Krupanandham, cabin crew training consisted of extensive seven weeks of in-house Emirates training which included medical training, fire fighting, advanced restraint techniques, safety and emergency equipment procedures, image and uniform training, service training, customer relationship management and evacuation drills.

The former Montarena Secondary pupil, whose favourite place to travel to is Los Angeles, California, hopes that Chatsworth residents will be inspired by her story.

“Do not let the fear of the unfamiliar stop you from obtaining greatness. Contentment kills your soul. Believe in yourself enough to know that you deserve more than your mind allows you to,” she added. In her spare time, she enjoys modeling, cooking, reading and is an outfit co-ordinator for friends for their events/special occasions.
