Jilted lover jailed for 25 years

Tyron Pillay was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for his estranged girlfriend’s murder.

Following the murder of Annelene Pillay on South Coast Road in November 2016, the accused, Dhayalan Tyron Pillay, was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the premeditated murder.

Pillay was at her place of work when the accused shot her five times. Dhayalan had called the tracking company to establish the whereabouts of his ex-girlfriend.

Upon establishing that she was at her place of employment, he sourced a reflective jacket to disguise himself as an employee to gain access to the premises.

Communications officer of Brighton Beach SAPS, Cpt Louise Le Roux said, “He had also sourced an unlicensed firearm and waited in the parking area of her place of employment. Upon her exiting the office, he exited his vehicle, pointed the firearm at her and fired five shots in her direction. Four rounds penetrated various parts of her body, while the fifth round which was the fatal shot, entered and exited the head area.”

Annelene Pillay was brutally gunned down outside her workplace.

Brighton Beach SAPS lead detective, Det W/O Gerhard Grobler, from the onset opposed bail and a further application brought before the court such as to ensure that Pillay be held accountable for his actions.

Brighton Beach Trio Crime, Det W/O Gerhard Grobler, described the violence Pillay imposed upon Annelene as horrendous. Pillay’s thought through and executed plan showed off his intentions to end Annelene’s right to life, to which he had no right.

“I am pleased with the sentence imposed upon the accused which includes 20 years imprisonment for premeditated murder, and five years for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was found unfit to possess a firearm,” Grobler said.

Management of Brighton Beach SAPS acknowledges Det W/O Gerhard Grobler on a thorough investigation conducted, the flawless bail opposition applications which ensured the accused presence before a court of law and securing the convictions imposed upon the accused, ensuring that he is held accountable for the violent crime imposed upon Annelene Pillay.
