CANSA teams up with Merebank Secondary School

Mrs P Moodley, Mr A Rajcoomar and Ms C Nair, together with Kumeshen Pillay (head boy 2018) and Zuhiraa Mahomed (head girl 2018), played an integral part in ensuring the day was a huge success.

Merebank Secondary School pupils were greeted with colour, music and flair when they arrived for their annual fun walk, recently.

CANSA teamed with the school’s fun walk planning committee after pupils had asked to do something different this year in terms of the fun walk and activities surrounding the walk.

This provided CANSA with an excellent platform to educate the young adults on CANSA support groups in their community and encourage healthy eating habits and the need for teenagers to be aware of the dangers of smoking.

The day was well received by the pupils, especially as Sharkie, Dolphi and Tok Tokkie were there to support the message of living a clean and healthy lifestyle.

This message was repeated by Dolphins players, Cody Chetty, Prenelan Subrayen and Lwandiswa Zuma.

Community mobiliser and fund development KZN region, Kim Theron said, “Although the message of the day was cancer prevention, it was also a day for the pupils to spend outside the classroom, engaging in exercise, dancing, spraying their hair in support of CANSA and interacting with teachers in a relaxed atmosphere.”

Sharks players were on hand to present Rugby box tickets to the school’s winning cricket team and second placed winners.
