Most wanted suspects in police custody for taxi-related cases

A multi-disciplinary operation conducted by police officers yielded impressive results after suspects were arrested for murders in Umbumbulu, Mpumalanga, Folweni and Umkomaas.

Provincial police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane said that most of these crimes were reported to police, last year, while some cases were reported in 2018.

“The operation commenced on Monday, April 9 and ran until April 10 where two suspects were arrested on Shepstone Road,” he explained.

One of the suspects was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Lt Col Zwane stated that they were linked to a number of murder cases, including taxi-related murders.

“He was also linked to a murder case in Umkomaas. It is suspected that he may be linked to other murder cases reported in Umbumbulu and surroundings areas. These suspects have been on the run for over a year,” he added.

The seized firearms will be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province.
