In an effort to keep the Chatsworth community neat and tidy, law enforcement officer, Don Bajinath is urging residents to be more mindful when allowing ‘trolley boys’ to collect their refuse.
‘Trolley boys’ are individuals, who collect garbage from residents, under the pretence that their refuse will be dumped at the local dumpsite, however the dirt is illegally dumped at parks, open spaces and sometimes, even verges.
Residents, who allow these individuals to collect dirt from their yard, will be dealt severally and will be issued fines up to R5, 000.

Baijanth said, “Generally, residents who miss the bin truck, support the illegal dumpers. The ‘trolley boys’ collect all forms of dirt and dump it wherever they please.”
He added, “This is a great environmental concern because the dirt is a health hazard and it also acts as a breathing ground of rodents. Residents are warned that they will personally be held responsible for their refuse.”
He also encourages residents to recycle their paper and plastic waste, as a way to curb pollution.
