The unit moved the operation to different spots in Malvern.

Communications officer of Malvern SAPS, W/O Radhika Marimuthu said, “As the Easter holidays draw closer, road users must be forewarned that roadblocks of this nature will become the norm.”

The end result will mean safer roads for all and falls within the mandate of the SAPS and Metro. “Party revelers are urged to make use of sober drivers or taxis to ensure a safe trip home,” added W/O Marimuthu.

Station commander of the Malvern SAPS, Lt Col Reddy, attributed the success of the operation to the excellent teamwork of the different units.

“It was disconcerting to note that families still insisted that drivers were sober and had only consumed two beers. This showed not only a blatant disregard for the safety of their families but also for other road users,” she said.
