Rock cocaine and heroin seized during multi-disciplinary operation

The eThekwini Inner South Cluster Crime Combating Unit arrested a 31-year-old suspect for alleged drug dealing in the Wentworth area, recently.

eThekwini Inner South Cluster Crime communications officer, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, said, “Police seized 22 pieces of rock cocaine and 24 capsules of heroin with an estimated street value of R3, 000. The accused will appear in court in due course.”

The eThekwini Inner South Cluster commander, Maj Gen Mandlenkosi Chirwa, has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards the ongoing violence.

The multi-disciplinary operations were held with other force multipliers in Wentworth to address gangsterism and drug dealing.

The police, together with the Durban Metro, held a high visibility operation in Wentworth where police conducted various searches of persons and vehicles. This operation yielded success for various road traffic offences and possession of drugs.

Maj Gen Chirwa assures the community of Wentworth that the police will work in partnership with the community of Wentworth to reduce crime in the area.

“It is imperative for the community to grow to trust the police and assist us in this fight against crime. These arrests send a clear message to drug dealers and drug manufacturers that police in Wentworth are determined to root-out the proliferation of drugs in our community,” Maj Gen Chirwa said.

The abuse of narcotics also generates higher levels of criminality and violence; therefore, police require adequate crime information in respect of illicit drug activity, not only for effective investigation but for the prosecution of organised crime syndicates.

Police have also appealed to residents to blow the whistle on alleged drug dealing in Wentworth and they will uphold their mandate to serve and protect the communities.
