Pensioner convicted for raping 10-year-old girl

A 64-year-old pensioner was convicted and sentenced to 20 years behind bars for raping a 10-year-old victim. The heinous crime was committed in 2016. On September 30, 2016, the victim was on her way to school when she went pass a local tuckshop.

While in the tuckshop, she was approached by the owner, who raped her. The accused was disturbed by a noise from outside, and due to this, the victim managed to escape.

The matter was reported to the police station for further investigation and the case was soon thereafter transferred to the local FCS unit.

The accused, Lindinkosi Malomeni Nxumalo was immediately arrested and charged accordingly. KZN’s acting provincial commissioner, Maj Gen Bheki Langa welcomed the sentenced meted out to the accused.

“This will serve as a warning to would-be perpetrators who target vulnerable women and children. I also wish to praise the victim, who stood up and reported the matter to police,” he concluded.
