Youth empowered at career guidance workshop

Isipingo ward 90, Cllr Sunil Brijmohan, together with SDB ABM senior manager, Eurakha Singh, at the workshop.

The Isipingo Ward 90 councillor, in partnership with the South Durban Basin Area Based Management, eThekwini Municipal Academy, Dept of Education, DUT, UKZN and various stakeholders hosted the first career guidance workshop at Isipingo Secondary School, last Wednesday.

The workshop was held for pupils from grade eight to grade 10 to assist them in making the right career decisions and to showcase to them the opportunities available.

“The reason for hosting the workshop was after I found out that our children were not getting work in our local industries, yet we have one of the biggest industrial area’s in the south. However, through introspection I found that our children do not meet the requirements of these companies. Together with the various stakeholders, we want to empower the children to become responsible adults and be equipped to enter the work industry. I will not rest until all companies are on board in employing our children,” said Cllr Sunil Brijmohan.
