Soccer lad set sights on camp in Italy

Jeremiah Wayne Labistour is ready to take on Italy.

An Austerville soccer youngster has been given an opportunity of lifetime. Nine-year-old, Jeremiah Wayne Labistour, who plays for the Euro Soccer School under 10 division, was selected to be part of a football talent identification camp hosted by Real Vicenza in Italy, from July 7 until July 17.

The purpose of the tour is to give players an international platform to showcase their skills in the hopes of being scouted. Real Vicenza selects the most talented players from the camp and offers them an opportunity for players to remain in Italy and be trained at Real Vicenza for pro football careers.

The trip includes training sessions daily, accommodation, meals, flights, and transport in Italy to and from the hotel to the training grounds and stadiums. However, the total cost for the trip is R42, 000 per player and parents have to raise the funds for the children.

This has left the family of Labistour who are financially-strapped pleading to the business sector and the community to help make his dream a reality.

Speaking to journalists, Jeremiah’s mother, Maria Anne Hemmero who describes her son as pleasant, well behaved, loving and respectful, said, “My son started playing soccer at the age of six for local team, Bayview Football Club. He eats, sleeps and dreams only about playing soccer, the sport is his passion and life. The game comes naturally to him, the moment he has a ball in front of him he just wants to dribble and kick with his older cousin in the yard.”

She added, “After being selected from a number of youngsters to receive a bursary from internationally known, Euro Soccer School, there was no turning back. This is an amazing opportunity for him. The moment he found out about tournaments, he is ever so eager to be part of it. He can go the whole day playing soccer and not worry to have a snack in between.

His love for the sport is so intense especially for a nine-year-old to know all the English premier teams, players, their managers and every other league as well. It’s shocking to me as a mother. As a parent, I feel this is an amazing opportunity for my son, however, due to our financial struggles, I cannot afford and would greatly appreciate any assistance towards the funding of this venture.”

Labistour’s favourite English soccer is Liverpool and his idol is, Philippe Coutinho. The talented youngsters hopes to play for them one day.

The family is in dire need of sponsorships to make this dream of playing in Italy come true.
