Due to an increase in blood sugar levels and cholesterol, the South African Police Employee, Health and Wellness section afforded their members free health and wellness testing, recently.

Members were given water bottles and cooler bags for attending the initiative. Employees of the Malvern SAPS had their blood sugar levels and cholesterol tested. They were advised on a healthy diet for the forthcoming months and on consuming vitamin rich foods that build up resistance against illnesses.

Corporate communications officer of Malvern SAPS, W/O Radhika Marimuthu said, ‘’Consuming antioxidant-rich foods and heart-healthy fats promotes a healthy heart, skin and a wholesome mind which will benefit employees in their work environment. The importance of regular exercise that promotes muscle toning and improves mobility was stressed on”.

Refraining from exercise during or after illnesses that can lead to myocardial infarction was further discussed. The station commander, Lt Col Valarine Reddy stated that frequent testing of the vital levels are important and can obviate more severe illness at a later stage.
