The Rising Sun team was recently welcomed into the Chiniah family home to learn more about how to prepare a spicy and tasty mutton curry dish.

The traditional curry is enjoyed by many throughout the community and Vanitha Chiniah was more than happy to share her recipe.

Here is what you will need:

  • Two kilograms of mutton
  • Three tablespoons of cooking oil
  • One tomato (diced)
  • One onion, finely chopped
  • Three potatoes
  • One tablespoon of crushed ginger and garlic
  • Salt
  • Curry powder, jeera powder, dhania powder and tumeric powder (quantity of your choice)

Method:

  • Pour the cooking oil into your pot and allow to heat. Throw in your finely chopped onions along with your ginger and garlic. This combination then grows with the addition of your diced tomatoes. Allow these ingredients to simmer before adding the mutton. Add your spices and wait for the ingredients to cook well over the correct temperature. After 15-20 minutes, include your potatoes and this will contribute to the thick, mouth-watering gravy that you desire.

This dish will make a perfect companion to a freshly prepared salad and rice. ‘Knead’ more details? Contact our newsroom on 031 459-8307.
